COMPONENTS

PPI ENGINEERING ALSO SUPPORTS INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT REQUIREMENTS ACROSS THE POWER GENERATION INDUSTRY.

Having the ability to accommodate a wide range of customer requirements has long been the priority of PPI Engineering. We do not limit our capabilities and therefore our customers options to a catalogue of specifications; but instead endeavour to cater to exactly the solution they are looking for.

ROTOR COPPER

In recognition of the growing trend of using copper bars in rotor winding as opposed to the traditional aluminium, PPI Engineering supplies these bars along with a range of other profiles of copper to support manufacture of various machines.

Some benefits to using copper for rotor winding include:

  • Same power output with a lighter build mass

  • Better durability due to a high melting point and tensile strength

  • Rare earth free which leads to more commercially attractive and reliable as a material

Naturally, we use our own copper during the winding and manufacture of our in-house designed machines, and recommend this change to third party designs because of its various benefits.

We can also manufacture one off components in non-alloy materials should it be required. Copper, aluminium and in some cases brass are all examples of materials that can be utilized.

SHAFT FORGINGS

PPI Engineering also produces shaft forgings which can be used in a wide range of applications within the power generation industry.

We cater to the customer rather than a catalogue of capabilities. Our tailored solutions which are driven through engineering expertise are valued by companies across the world in a variety of sectors.

Sizes produced are up to 18m in length with diameters of up to 2m. Our maximum forging weight is 150 tonnes.

Some of our facilities in producing such forgings are as follows:

  • 8,500 Tonne open die hydraulic forging press

  • 8m, 10m, 14m and 20m long lathes

  • 11m deep-hole drilling and boring lathe

  • Horizontal boring and milling machines

  • Plasma spray welding machines

RETAINING RINGS

PPI Engineering prides itself on its flexibility and diversity when it comes to its supply of retaining rings and end caps. Our austenitic steel forgings are produced to customers’ requirements and dimensions.

As one of the main uses of this type of forgings is rotor end caps for turbo generators, quality and strength are at the forefront of our priorities. Our processes are specifically tailored to each project to ensure that the optimism of productivity and efficiency.

The forging material preferred by PPI Engineering is Chromium, Manganese steel; a high strength steel that is non-magnetic and resistant to stress corrosion cracking.

To guarantee the quality of our retaining rings, we conduct various quality assurance tests such as: Dye penetrant, magnetic permeability, UT and grain structure.
